Designing and Conducting Empirical Research with XR Technology
Module #41306 - Summer Semester 2026
This course teaches theoretical foundations and practical skills for planning, conducting, and evaluating empirical studies in human-computer interaction with AR/VR systems. Students will learn to formulate research questions, design studies specific to AR/VR contexts, conduct user studies, analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and present scientific results. The AR/VR prototype is provided and does not need to be developed by students. Registration is open via ISIS. This module is particularly relevant for students planning to apply for a thesis at the HCI group.
Advanced Topics in HCI
Module #41186 - Summer Semester 2026
This course provides a comprehensive overview of good and bad user experience design in practice and its adaptation for XR environments. Students will conduct independent literature reviews, develop XR prototypes in groups, and critically reflect on design innovations from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The module includes a literature review, group project work, prototype development, and testing using user-centered methods. Registration is open through Moses (#41186). Recommended for students in their final semesters.
MuC 2026 Workshop - Embedding HCI in the Real World
Strategies for Recruitment and Field Research on Collaboration in Hybrid Spaces
We invite researchers, practitioners, and academics from diverse sectors to participate in our workshop on field studies with emerging technologies in collaborative, hybrid spaces. The workshop will focus on recruitment, methodologies, challenges, regulatory considerations, and future applications in this domain. We aim to foster discussions and networking opportunities among experts and newcomers alike. The workshop will feature lightning talks, discussions, and a participatory design session to explore different perspectives on conducting field studies in collaborative work settings. Selected submissions will be presented as 5-minute lightning talks followed by 5-minute discussions.
